Last week marked the intersection of World Water Day, National Ag Day, World Forest Day and the first day of spring here in the Northern Hemisphere of Mother Earth. It was also the one year anniversary of the #PapalotlProject's "Art of Gardening" intergenerational science and story sharing initiative launched by Cogenerate Innovation Fellow Tara Chadwick, in collaboration with the City of Miramar Community Services Department.*

Starting last February, #PapalotlProject began to engage with elders and preschoolers across Broward County and beyond to increase awareness and appreciation of our diverse cultural heritage. Over the year-long pilot project, an ongoing conversation around science, art and healthy living was established among program participants, staff, and families. Each season, topics such as urban agricultural cycles, cultural food traditions, migration, hibernation and pollination were shared among and between the diverse generations and geographies in which we are rooted.

Last week's series of UN recognized, interactive art installations featured a decorative take home seed planter disbursing native milkweed, beans, sunflowers and perennial marigolds to homes throughout the county. Participatory evaluation revealed a deep appreciation for the opportunity to engage in culture and art based, intergenerational learning activities. The final public interaction for the #PapalotlProject "Art of Gardening" pilot will take place on April 20th at 10:30-11:30 am in Miramar. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required [RSVP here https://www.artscalendar.com/event/international-mother-earth-day/].
